les crocodiles noirs

My name is Clare. I live in Indiana. I like calendars, nighttime, & catching food in my mouth.

I walked to the hospital at midnight yesterday to spend the night waiting in various rooms with my brother who got appendicitis. For 10 hours I sat under fluorescent lights and drew doodles and tried to make him laugh without hurting too much(mostly successful.)

Now his face is greenish and pale, but he is asleep & the appendectomy went well.

Summertime sweaters; I like all my clothes a bit too snug.

Facts of May

  • School is over & I’m letting it be over.
  • Gardening/building things/teaching children/stitching/painting/cooking eggs.
  • Learning to know my guitar better & singing more in front of people. It is good to let that be part of my permanent personship, an easy fact. Creative production shouldn’t ever be embarrassing.
  • Cryin’ & huggin’ & not givin’ in to vulnerability unless I can control it/know where it’s going/can still have the means to comfort & cradle myself.
  • Going to Chicago by myself this weekend to look at plants, visit my brother, and pass impatient time until my loves come home to me.
  • Paying close attention to the difference between feeling grounded & feeling buried.
  • “You can’t always just be a plant,” said JD. (His reminders of my humanity - for good & for bad - kick me where I should be kicked.)

My sleepy face this mornin’, weeding & preparing vegetable beds in my grandma’s garden.
Spending a big part of my waking daylight hours this summer growing things in different places & on different scales. At last! It’s a relief.
